MEGA hit TV show Baywatch is being turned into a comedy for the big screen, according to reports.

The American show, which followed the lives of gorgeous lifeguards in LA, became a global smash in the Nineties, pulling in more than 1.1billion viewers.

It also turned Pamela Anderson into a major pin-up and boosted the waning career of David Hasselhoff.

Bosses at Paramount have now hired writer Jeremy Garelick to tweak the script for a movie version, following years of rumors that the show would be turned into a feature film.

Garelick, who plans to direct the flick himself, believes the plot lends itself well to a mainstream comedy.

He said: “It felt like the template to do a movie that was similar to Stripes and Police Academy, the comedies I loved growing up.”

His story follows two out-of-shape wannabe lifeguards trying to keep up with their fitter colleagues.

None of the original cast will star in the movie, but there are rumours that Hasselhoff and Anderson will make cameo appearances.
