Pamela Anderson has made a career out of…well…making a career.
Her occupation might say “sex symbol,” but that seems soooo out-of-sync with the times. Even though she has a new movie, Hollywood & Wine, in the can you wouldn’t exactly call her an actress.
She’s more of a personality, who appears in movies and television series.
She’s what Tila Tequila aspires to.
And while you wouldn’t exactly call her an activist, that’s eactly where her most recent fame - outside of tabloid fodder - seems to come from.
Her close friendship with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals veep Dan Matthews has put her front and center in many of the group’s ad campaigns.
All of which makes her the perfect candidate for fragrance fame. Anderson’s first foray into the scent game is called Malibu by Pamela Anderson. Keeping in that beach babe mode, she will do a launch party here in SoFla at the W Hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach Nov. 5th.
Malibu will be sold in CVS Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Sears and Overstock.com starting in November. The 1.7 ounce will cost $39 and the 3.4 ounce spray will retail for $49.
For holiday, expect a gift set with body lotion, shower gel and a purse-friendly mini-bottle.
Anderson can’t stay out of SoFla. She is scheduled to arrive tomorrow on the luxe airline Fame Route at Opa-Locka Airport for Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach along with Deborah Cox and Nicole Miller.
She’ll appear with club-kid designer Richie Rich for the debut of his A*Muse collection and then do a PETA fundraiser at the W Hotel South Beach tomorrow night.
She also made a splash on the runway when she appeared in Vivienne Westwood’s fall/winter show last March in Paris.
1. Is it true that Malibu fragrance is just the start of your own skin care roll-out of products? Are you planning on taking over the beauty field?
“It’s the first of many products – sun care, of course; bubbles, lotions, potions…and emotions…Not the entire beauty field – just the hot ones.”
2. Describe your Malibu life that the fragrance evokes?
“Beachy, just woke up, get your kids to school look and still get into trouble now and then. Hot for boyfriend.”
3. You’re such an animal activist. Are you sure your new fragrance wasn’t tested on cute little bunnies or mice?
“Hell no. Not even ugly bunnies or mice.”
4. Elle magazine reported that you said you never wear sun block. That can’t be true. We saw you close-up at the opening of veggie-restaurant Sublime in Fort Lauderdale years ago. Your skin is porcelain-smooth.
“Retouching? My dad always told me if you wear sun block, you have a ‘fake’ tan (Canada). I’m finding out in California or anywhere hot that we need a little help – as long as it’s not chemicals. ”
5. You’re not just taking over the beauty biz; you’re also a fashion muse for Richie Rich. How did that come about?
“Better over a glass of champagne! More bubbles! Richie and I were bound to do something like this. “
